Breaking news via @ellenmcoyne: the Oireachtas abortion committee will vote on whether the Eighth Amendment should be removed and what law, if any, would replace it on December 13th #everywoman #8committee

Today as the #8committee vote inside Dáil Éireann, outside up to 12 women effected by the 8th are forced to travel overseas to access abortion services, as a sticker in Dublin Airport Said " Travelling for an abortion? You are not alone. This airport holds the shadows of tens of thousands of women who who have gone before you. We are everyone. We are everywhere. We see you. We support you. We offer you love, strength and solidarity on your journey. Be well and get angry. They cannot keep doing this to us." Today is an incredibly important today in our move towards #repealthe8th thinking of all those who have been fighting & working towards this for decades and every single person effected by the 8th . Step 1 ✔️ (well really probably step 300 million if you consider all the steps that have been taken to get here since the 8th was inserted in 1983 but it's not as catchy) #repealthe8th #8committee

A week before Christmas, the Abortion Committee has voted for abortion to be legalised for ANY reason at all. They believe preborn children can be torn apart and dumped in the trash. It’s easy to be “pro-choice “ isn’t it, when you’re not the one being chosen. #RepealKills #SaveThe8th #prolife #8committee

I don’t often share work stuff here, but: if you’re interested, here’s how the Oireachtas committee on the 8th Amendment voted on various issues today. (As adapted in tomorrow’s Irish Times!) #8committee

People in Ireland do not support the criminalisation of women & their doctors. The 14 yr prison sentence must go. The #8committee must #repealthe8th & decriminalise abortion.

Headlines like this never cease to make us stop to think how far we have come. We still have a long way to go however, and we await with cautious trepidation the outcome of tomorrow’s #8committee vote. We at ARC know that free, safe and legal access to abortion services, without restriction, to all those who want or need it is the gold standard in reproductive healthcare and we will continue our fight to achieve this for the people of Ireland. #freesafelegal #repealthe8th

🤝A step towards #repealthe8th as we build towards a referendum. 🤝 . First positive result - The committee’s recommendations are to be forwarded to the Dáil for consideration . . The Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment is to recommend Article 40.3.3 be repealed from the Constitution and the Oireachtas be given the power to legislate. The proposal was tabled by Labour TD Jan O’Sullivan and supported by 14 members of the 21-member committee. Six members voted against with the chairwoman abstaining.” - #8committee

Repeal simpliciter. We at ARC welcome some of the recommendations today from the #8committee as “an important step towards securing real and realistic abortion access in Ireland” but highlights the importance of ensuring free, safe, and legal abortion access in subsequent legislation. #freesafelegal #repealthe8th

While it's not everything we wanted and there are battles ahead.. today was a huge win for the repeal movement.. YESSSS!!!

The Oireachtas #8committee has voted that the Eighth Amendment be repealed without any replacement. There's a long way to go, but we're hopeful that women and girls in Ireland will soon to be allowed make their own choices about the direction in which they take their lives #8committee #repealthe8th #abortionrights #IndulgeMe

❤❤❤ The committee has voted for a straight repeal of the Eighth Amendment!! The Eighth Amendment is the constitutional ban on abortion. We now need to fight to ensure that we get real abortion rights than benefit all women who might need one. This is a very important day, but we need to keep up the pressure. #ReproductiveHealth #reproductiverights #RightToChoose #repealthe8th #8committee #oppression #ProLife #prochoice #abortion #abortionrights #AbortionPills #WomenOnWeb #feminism #feminist
